Italy

Italy

Italy has adopted the European Model Parking Card.

Parking spaces

Parking Spaces reserved for a Parking Card holder are marked with the wheelchair symbol.

Do not park if the space is marked with a parking card number.

Where you may use your Parking Card

You may use your Parking Card in most EU / EEA member states, and in some other countries around the world.

Look at the entry for the country you intend visiting to see if your parking card can be used.

Visitor to Italy

Visitor from another EU / EEA member state - your Parking Card should be accepted in Italy.

Visitor from outside the EU / EEA – your Parking Card may not be accepted in parts of Italy – you should check locally.

Parking on roads

A Parking Card holder visiting Italy should first check that their Parking Card will be accepted, before taking advantage of parking concessions.

Do not park on roads where parking is prohibited.

Do not drive or park in a pedestrian or ZTL (limited traffic) zone unless the traffic signs indicate that access is allowed or that public services vehicles are allowed. The methods of access to the ZTL vary from municipality to municipality: in some cases it is sufficient to show the Parking Card while in others, especially if there are electronic gates, you must communicate in advance the number plate of the vehicle. Inform yourself on site.

It is possible to drive in the preferential lanes and in case of bans or limitations of the circulation for special reasons (eg for environmental reasons).

In most areas it is necessary to pay on the roads where this is expected: check the parking signs.

You can park without time limits on roads where parking is free but parking is limited in time, but only if the parking card is accepted: check on site.

Parking in car parks

1 in 50 spaces in public car parks are marked with the wheelchair symbol for use by vehicles displaying the Parking Card. Parking is only free of charge in those spaces.

However, as the Parking Card of a visitor to Italy may not be accepted, you should ask an attendant before parking.

Visitor to Italy – print and display this notice next to your Parking Card
